What is TAD?

TAD stands for Through-Air-Dried, a manufacturing process that uses a gentle stream of hot air to dry pulp fibers rather than pressing them flat with heavy rollers. The result is a porous, three-dimensional structure with microscopic air pockets that deliver faster uptake, stronger capillary action, and greater liquid retention.

Until now, TAD was reserved only for premium, virgin-wood based products, the secret behind the exceptional absorbency and strength of brands like Bounty and Brawny.

PlantPaper Towel is the first ever paper towel to apply TAD technology to bamboo fibers. The result? The first tree-free paper towel that actually works.

Is it toxin-free?

Yes. PlantPaper Towel is made entirely without bleach, formaldehyde, dyes, fragrances or plastics of any kind. It is lab-tested free of PFAS, dioxins, heavy metals, and BPA/S.

Can the sheets be re-used?

PlantPaper Towel is strong enough to be reused over and over again. Rinse it, wring it out, and put it back to work.

Why go tree-free?

Most paper towel sold in the U.S. and Canada is made from wood pulp, sourced from old-growth trees in the Canadian Boreal Forest and carbon-intensive eucalyptus plantations in South America. The Boreal forest is one of the world’s most important carbon sinks, storing more carbon than all known oil, gas, and coal reserves combined. Clear-cutting releases millions of tons of carbon dioxide each year, and even replanted forests can take over a century to recover—if they recover at all.

What makes bamboo better?

Bamboo is one of the world’s fastest growing plants, capable of growing up to three feet in 24 hours. It requires little water, no fertilizer and regenerates on its own after cutting. The more regularly bamboo is harvested, the faster it grows. PlantPaper is made of 100% FSC® Certified, unbleached bamboo.

Vibrant green forest and trees

We start with 100% FSC-certified carbon neutral bamboo, primarily from the species neosinocalamus affinis, valued for its unique pulp characteristics which allow it to create a paper towel of exceptional strength and softness. While most other brands, tree-based and tree-free alike, bleach their pulp to turn it white, PlantPaper uses no bleach or dyes of any kind.

Is it plastic free?

Yes! Some paper towels are made with polypropylene or synthetic fibers to increase wet strength. PlantPaper Towel contains no plastics of any kind.

It’s also shipped 100% plastic-free. Both our outer cardboard shipping box and inner boxes are 100% recycled and compostable.

Why go unbleached?

PlantPaper Towel is 100% free of bleach—no artificial whitening or dying process of any kind. The color you see reflects the natural color of the bamboo fibers themselves.

Conventional paper towel paper is whitened by ECF bleaching. Relative to traditional chlorine bleaching, numerous studies have found that ECF significantly reduces but does not completely eliminate the production of dioxins in the papermaking process.

How does the price compare?

PlantPaper Towel may look expensive at first because our pack sizes may be bigger than what you’re used to buying in the store. Instead of selling 4- or 6-roll packs that would incur disproportionately high shipping costs, we sell PlantPaper Towel in larger pack sizes that make more sense for delivery, allowing us to offer free shipping on all subscription orders.

Paper towel math is baffling.

Walk down the paper towel aisle and this is what you’ll see:

Various paper towel brands

These naming conventions aren’t ways of measuring. They’re ways of distorting.

When they say things like 1 triple roll = 3 regular rolls, the regular roll in question would need to have 41 sheets. You won’t find that on the grocery store shelf. Good luck finding it anywhere, because it doesn’t really exist. It’s just a made-up baseline they invented to justify a name.

Despite their brazenness, these tactics basically work: many of us unconsciously believe if a paper towel package doesn’t include nonsensical mathematical formulas, we might not be getting a good value.

But the real question is not whether 1 roll = 3 rolls, 4 rolls, or 22 rolls. The real question is does one sheet actually do the job?

Comparable cost for a massive upgrade.

The cheapest sheet is not always the cheapest clean. A flimsy paper towel can look cheaper on the shelf. But if you need 2-3 sheets to do the job of 1, it isn’t actually cheaper. It’s more expensive.

Each ply of PlantPaper Towel is up to 30-40% more absorbent than other bamboo and recycled paper towel options. And with 3 plys instead of 2, one sheet of PlantPaper Towel often does the work of 2–3 sheets of thinner recycled or bamboo paper towels.

PlantPaper Towel is made to perform like the premium tree-based paper towels people already rely on: thicker, stronger, more absorbent, and less likely to shred halfway through the job.

A revolution in paper towels.

Since it was first introduced in the 1950s, paper towel has been the unsung workhorse of the American kitchen. Brands like Bounty and Brawny have dominated the market, employing state-of-the-art technologies to produce ever-more absorbent paper, all the while relying exclusively on pulp from virgin forests and harsh chemical processing.

Alternative bamboo and recycled wood-based paper towels have been available for years, but anyone who’s used them knows they aren’t very good: thin, non-absorbent, and prone to breaking.

A marriage of technology
and ecology.

A marriage of technology and ecology.

PlantPaper Towel is the first-ever product to apply Through-Air-Drying to bamboo, the world’s fast growing and most sustainable source of fiber.

Unlike conventional paper making, Through-Air-Drying blows heated air through the pulp fibers, producing a porous, three-dimensional structure with microscopic air pockets that deliver faster uptake, stronger capillary action and greater liquid retention.

A relentless obsession with performance.

A relentless obsession with performance.

Long ago, we made a promise to our customers and to ourselves that we would never release a product that didn’t represent a meaningful upgrade over what already existed. If we were going to make a paper towel, it would need to live up to that same standard—something that could actually hold its own against the Bountys and Brawnys of the world.

PlantPaper Towel is a product that we’re truly proud of. We’re honored to be part of your daily routine and excited to bring PlantPaper Towel into your home.
