How does it feel?

The first thing most people notice about PlantPaper is its silkiness and strength. PlantPaper doesn’t pill or tear due to bamboo’s exceptionally high tensile strength. It also doesn’t create dust or lint in the way many tree-based toilet papers do. On the reverse side, PlantPaper’s unique dimpling pattern also provides more grip, so people find they use fewer sheets.

Softest bamboo TP I’ve found
This is the softest bamboo TP I've tried. Many other brands are rough, scratchy, or thick. I'm on a septic and grey water system, so I love that this TP isn't thick and bulky (but it's still strong!) AND it is unbleached so no chlorine to worry about.

Unexpected but Beloved
Regardless of the benefits with it being better for the body and planet, it's actually the best quality toilet paper I've ever ever ever used. It's soft but strong, never rips, tears, or pills, and you need significantly less of it than usual to get the job done. Now that I know how good toilet paper can be this is the only paper I even want to use!
Why go tree-free?

Most toilet paper sold in the U.S. and Canada is made from wood pulp, sourced from old-growth trees in the Canadian Boreal Forest and carbon-intensive eucalyptus plantations in South America. The Boreal forest is one of the world’s most important carbon sinks, storing more carbon than all known oil, gas, and coal reserves combined. Clear-cutting releases millions of tons of carbon dioxide each year, and even replanted forests can take over a century to recover—if they recover at all.

What makes bamboo better?

Bamboo is one of the world’s fastest growing plants, capable of growing up to three feet in 24 hours. It requires little water, no fertilizer and regenerates on its own after cutting. The more regularly bamboo is harvested, the faster it grows. PlantPaper is made of 100% FSC® Certified, unbleached bamboo.

We start with 100% FSC-certified carbon neutral bamboo, primarily from the species neosinocalamus affinis, valued for its unique pulp characteristics which allow it to create a toilet paper of exceptional strength and softness. While most other brands, tree-based and tree-free alike, bleach their pulp to turn it white, PlantPaper uses no bleach or dyes of any kind.

Why go unbleached?

PlantPaper is 100% free of bleach—no artificial whitening or dying process of any kind. The color you see reflects the natural color of the bamboo fibers themselves.

Conventional toilet paper is whitened by ECF bleaching. Relative to traditional chlorine bleaching, numerous studies have found that ECF significantly reduces but does not completely eliminate the production of dioxins in the papermaking process.

Converted Skeptic
I ordered this paper because I was having issues with sensitivity to the softest grocery store paper. My husband saw it and was like no way, I can’t use that. I asked him to give it a month. His hemorrhoids are better. My menopausal issues are better. We ran out and I bought a pack of grocery store paper to get us through until a new shipment arrived. He asked me to please make sure we don’t run out again. You converted a blue collar, stuck in his ways man. Thank you.

I Can Never Go Back
After using this toilet paper for almost a year now, I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to traditional toilet paper. I love the thickness, I love that it's unbleached, I feel safe using it knowing it's completely nontoxic, and it's just good toilet paper. Thank you for a wonderful product.

Loving It
I made the switch to Plant Paper from another (very) well known TP subscription company. What made me switch was the unbleached/no PFAS aspect. The toilet paper is so soft and I really do feel like it has made a difference with the irritation I had been experiencing. Some guests at my condo who've tried it have told me they will be making the switch too.

Luxurious
I adore PlantPaper! I've tried a few different brands of unbleached bamboo TP and this is definitely my go-to brand now. The paper is nice and thick and soft. I can use less of it each time so it lasts a really long while - I'm actually convinced we spend less on this premium paper than we used to on the conventional stuff because we went through it faster! I feel so good knowing there's no bleach, fragrance, etc. in the paper. Thank you PlantPaper!
Why was toilet paper bleached in the first place?

Early toilet paper wasn’t bleached at all—it started as a simple paper product meant for direct contact with skin. Bleaching existed at the time, but it was used for industrial paper, not personal care. As toilet paper became mass-produced in the 20th century, manufacturers began bleaching it to make every roll look bright white and uniform.

Is PlantPaper 100% non-toxic?

Yes. PlantPaper is rigorously lab-tested and shown to be free of bleach, formaldehyde, PFAS, BPA, BPS, dioxins, and heavy metals. It is made entirely without dyes or fragrances.

Non-Toxic is Everything
Happy beyond measure about how soft the texture of this bamboo toilet paper is. Having a test run on the tissues instead of my usual kleenex. Passes with flying colors. My health depends on non-toxic in the bathroom. Will be carrying a roll of PlantPaper in my backpack for sure.

Pleasantly Surprised
After doing much research I was appalled at what is in regular TP. I decided to try Plant Paper expecting to have to make some kind of trade off for a non toxic brand. To my surprise its is far superior in feel! I highly recommend! I will be a customer for life!

Best switch this year
We’ve made an effort this year to go non-toxic as much as possible in our household. I’m so happy we found PlantPaper. They’re extremely transparent about all their testing and make their product with no compromises. To top it off, my family actually loves the way it feels, and the customer service is top notch. Best switch all year.
Is PlantPaper PFAS-free?

Yes. PlantPaper consistently tests negative for PFAS, commonly known as forever chemicals. There are six main PFAS compounds that account for the majority of PFAS that is detected in toilet paper and other household products—PFHxA, PFOA, PFDA, 6:2 diPAP, 6:2/8:2 diPAP, and 8:2 diPAP. We test for all six of these, in addition to 22 additional compounds, which are far less prevalent. PlantPaper tests negative for all 28 of these, as well as organic fluorine, a marker for PFAS.

What are PFAS?

PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals used to make products resistant to water, grease, and stains. They’re often called “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down easily and can persist in the environment and the human body over time. PFAS have been used for decades in everything from nonstick cookware and food packaging to textiles and some paper products. Because they’re so persistent, scientists and regulators have increasingly focused on reducing unnecessary exposure wherever possible.

What’s wrong with white TP?
We’ve spent the last three years working with different manufacturing partners in search of the right combination of ingredients, density, ply and other variables to deliver the strength that we wanted in our paper, while keeping additives to a bare minimum. The result is a product that is stronger and silkier than any other paper we’ve tried.
Why should I subscribe?

A PlantPaper subscription saves you time, effort and money—as much as $50 per year. It also means you never have to worry about running out, and you’ll always have the right amount on hand. No more emergency runs to the corner store, no more hauling toilet paper around. You can adjust or pause anytime, and we’ll always let you know before an order ships. Our subscription portal makes it easy—no password necessary.

I’m sold and a huge fan
I usually shop at Costco for toilet paper, but when comparing the prices it was the same price for me to have the healthier option delivered to my door. The website and subscription is super simple to navigate and update without having to reach out to customer service. I had to update my subscription and it’s been very simple. My phone has a password issue that I can’t figure out, so being able to log-in with no password makes the customer experience for me yet again, easy!

The one subscription we can’t live without
I never thought I’d love a subscription, but this one is amazing. It’s like they actually set it up to be simple to use. Total flexibility, no need for a password, they’re great about communicating before orders go out. Now we’re locked in and my next order seems to always show up at the perfect time. Not sure how they did it but PlantPaper just got this all perfect and it actually makes my life easier.

Straightforward and convenient
PlantPaper makes ordering their eco-friendly bamboo toilet paper incredibly straightforward and convenient. You can easily set up a subscription to have the product delivered right to your door, and if you need to add tissue boxes or extra rolls, the process is just as simple. This flexibility extends to cancellation as well; you can cancel your subscription at any time without any hassle, which is a feature I particularly appreciate. This ease of management is facilitated through their customer portal where you can view past orders, manage your subscriptions, and even update your shipping or billing information as needed. Love it!
Is PlantPaper expensive?

Compared to “premium” tree paper brands, PlantPaper typically works out to the same price, or even a bit cheaper.

When comparing PlantPaper to other bamboo brands, it’s not apples to apples. PlantPaper is the only leading bamboo brand that is 100% bleach-free. PlantPaper’s sheets are also 20% larger than other bamboo brands, and thicker too, meaning you use less. PlantPaper subscribers who’ve switched from other bamboo brands report using 30-40% fewer sheets.

On a per roll basis, using the largest pack sizes available, PlantPaper costs about the same as other bamboo brands. Taking into account sheets per roll, PlantPaper typically works out to about $10 more per year per person than other bamboo brands.

Why "double-sided"?

Most toilet paper embossing exists to hold plies together or add decorative branding. When we developed PlantPaper, we realized embossing could do more. Our dot-matrix pattern creates two distinct textures: a silky side designed for gentle dabbing, and a grippier side that improves pickup and absorbency. The result is better performance, fewer sheets used, and less abrasion.

How soft is PlantPaper?

We could go on about bamboo’s exceptional silkiness and strength, but we think it’s better to let our customers tell you themselves.

This is one of those products where you are like dammit the ad got me, why did I buy that! But after trying it unfortunately amazing and I will keep repurchasing for as long as I can. Is it septic safe?

Yes! PlantPaper breaks down easily in septic systems. To see for yourself, try this test at home:

Put 4 squares of PlantPaper in a glass jar. Fill the jar ¾ full. Put back on the lid and shake heavily for 10 seconds. If the paper has broken down into small pieces (it will!), then it’s septic-safe.

Compared to other 2- and 3-ply premium toilet paper brands, whether tree- or bamboo-based, PlantPaper breaks down more quickly and completely. The majority of clogs are not the result of a change in paper, but rather due to underlying bellies and back-ups in the pipes that gradually worsen over time. Still, no matter what paper you’re using, if you’re a heavy wiper (you use more than 10-15 sheets of toilet paper per visit), consider flushing midway to reduce stress on your system. There’s no truly universal measure of septic safety, because no two septic or plumbing systems are exactly alike. But toilet paper that passes this test will pass easily through almost any well-maintained plumbing system.

If you're still unsure, it's always best to get a second opinion from a professional plumber.

Is it plastic free?

Yes! PlantPaper is shipped 100% plastic-free. Both our outer cardboard shipping box and inner boxes are 100% recycled and compostable. Our rolls come packed in boxes of 8, without annoying individual wrappers to avoid waste. These boxes are great for under-counter storage and make it easy to break up your order for multiple bathrooms.

How many sheets per roll?

PlantPaper has 200 sheets per roll, with each sheet measuring 4.3” x 4.3,” with total surface area of 18.5 square inches, about 20% larger than conventional sheets.

PlantPaper’s core is made to fit most standard roll holders, and is 100% recycled and compostable.

WHY NOT TREE PAPER?
There is nothing clean about toilet paper as we know it.
Old growth trees
Conventional toilet paper relies on trees cut down in the Canadian boreal forest. This forest is one of the largest carbon sinks on the planet, and an essential line of defense against climate change.
Carbon intensive
Tree paper requires huge amounts of energy and water to break down into pulp–almost 40 gallons per roll.
Harsh chemicals
The fluffier and whiter the paper, the more intensive chemical processing it requires.

Old growth forests are complex ecosystems that develop over the course of centuries or millenia. Once cut down, they never regain their capacity for carbon storage or their ability to sustain wildlife.

Chemicals used in the bleaching process can combine with compounds in the environment to form dioxins and furans—persistent organic pollutants.

WHY BAMBOO?
Bamboo is the world’s fastest growing plant.
Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet, capable of growing up to 3.5 feet per day.
Bamboo stores 3x more carbon than a stand of trees and produces 35% more oxygen.
Pulping bamboo requires 30% less water than pulping trees.
The more bamboo is harvested, the faster it grows. A bamboo grove may be able to produce as much as 10x more usable fiber for paper than a forest of equivalent size. Bamboo stores up to 40% of its carbon underground, carbon that remains intact even when it’s harvested.
"I know the word disrupt is overused, but I'm using it here. The PlantPaper crew completely reinvented the lowly toilet paper and made it interesting, educational and I might even say sexy. No small feat."
